You Can Help AWA

Ways to Help the Animal Welfare Alliance
of Southeast Missouri

Volunteer to Help AWA
(Click in the upper right corner of this page
to print out a volunteer form/release. Mail it to
AWA Volunteer Chair, PO Box 647,
Poplar Bluff, MO 63902)

We always need volunteers! Even before we get our no-kill shelter built, you can help with different projects.

Donate gently used furniture, appliances, d├ęcor items, collectibles or clothing to AWA by taking the items to one of three Poplar Bluff resale shops that will earmark sales proceeds for AWA:

  • Somewhere In Time Antiques & More
  • The Consignment Mall
  • Second-Hand Rose

Help work at one of several AWA special events during the year.

Some events like "Art for Animals" or "Howling at the Moon" raisemoney for AWA. Others, like "Doggie Swim Day" at the city pool or "Bark in the Park" are primarily to have fun and meet other supporters.

Help transport dogs and cats traveling by car through this area to their new forever homes.

Raise awareness of the need for spaying and neutering pets by giving a program at your school or club meeting.

Raise awareness of AWA by handing out our literature or by posting an AWA banner on your Facebook page, Website or Myspace. (See banner and directions below.)

Take pictures at AWA events. (We never seem to have enough pictures.)

If you are good at artwork, graphics design or Internet technology, we can always use help in those areas.

During construction of our no-kill shelter

Once we start construction of our shelter, there will be many opportunities for hands-on help: Carpentry, drywall installation, painting, landscaping, simple decorating, work scheduling and coordinating.

After the shelter is open and operating

AWA will need many volunteers for a wide variety of jobs: Walking dogs, cleaning cat pens, cleaning dog pens, feeding, grooming, helping with office procedures, greeting the public, general maintenance and handyman chores, laundry, data entry, record keeping, sorting donations, gardening, lawn mowing, training volunteers, gift shop sales, and more.
